Growth Mindset

At Heathfield, we promote a culture where mistakes are celebrated because mistakes are key to learning. WE teach our children to see mistakes as part of the learning process and to adopt a 'growth mindset' to grow their brains, rather than believing in 'fixed mindset' that they have a set amount of intelligence that can't be altered. We encourage risk-taking, whilst developing children’s skills of perseverance, resilience, and resourcefulness.
Examples of how we promote growth mindset are found in our classroom displays, marking policy and the rewards that are given to the children, praising characteristics such as resilience and perseverance.
We also teach children about mindfulness; appreciating the experience of the present. We believe these strategies support children to achieve their best and prepare them well to overcome life's challenges.
