Big Question

Our foundation subjects are taught thematically, through our Big Question curriculum, which places a key question at the centre of each term’s learning and is planned around the Heathfield, Head, Heart and Hands.

The Big Questions in year 3 are:

How did pre-historic Britain shape my life? (Autumn)

During this BQ, children will explore pre-historic Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. They will understand how humans survived over 2 million years ago and how the development of farming has helped us today.

How would you survive Ancient Egypt today? (Spring)

During this BQ, children will explore the ancient Egyptian civilization and the legacies that are still alive today. Children will understand why the River Nile was considered a gift and how it was key to their survival.

How did the Romans change the lives of people in Europe? (Summer)

During the third BQ, children will explore how the Roman Empire impacted the lives of people in Europe tincluding roads, government, engineering and construction.

Reading and homework
Children in year 3 have been given a reading journal to explore their own responses to books they read. Find the 'Reading Challenges' at the back of the reading journal for ideas and look at the English tab on the website for additional reading at home information.
Homework will be given out at the start of each half term. Homework will be related to the 'Big Question' and raffle tickets will be awarded for homework.
Spellings will be given out weekly and will be tested on Fridays.
Times tables are practiced daily at school. At the end of year 3, children are expected to know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Don't forget to use TTRS to practice at home. Find the link below
