GEOGRAPHY @HEATHFIELD

GEOGRAPHY @ HEATHFIELD

At Heathfield we define geography as ‘the study of places and the relationships between people and their environment’. Throughout their geography learning we aim for our pupils to build up excellent local geographical knowledge building to wider national geography moving towards an understanding of the global impact that concepts such as trade, tourism and climate can have on the world in which they live. As well as pupils gaining substantive knowledge, we ensure experience of using disciplinary knowledge to help pupils build their understanding of the world in which they live and answer geographical problems. Through our geography curriculum we plan deliberate retrieval and experiences to practice fieldwork both within the school grounds and beyond. Our curriculum is designed to build our pupils understanding of European countries  and  later the Americas.

At the heart of each of our units is a geographical enquiry which, throughout the unit we prepare pupils to answer. Each of our units provides opportunity pupils to reflect on their learning and how to apply it to answer geographical questions and develop an enjoyment of the subject.
